About

Sadie Phillipson is a Toronto based artist with a BA from McGill University, where she majored in Gender, Sexuality, Feminist and Social Justice Studies and minored in Religious Studies. Her academic background informs a multidisciplinary practice that includes collage, text-based work, sculpture and more.

Sadie’s work explores the quiet tensions and contradictions that come with being human. Paralleling her philosophies in Gender and Social Justice studies, her artwork suggests an indisputable undercurrent of love that pushes people forward in the face of difficulty, pain, and injustice. Across all forms, Sadie’s practice honours the subtle but vital impulse toward softness; the part of each person that believes in the worthiness of being here, and making things.

Rather than offering conclusions, Sadie’s work invites quiet recognition. A feeling about the shared experience of staying alive, and finding meaning in the ways we are connected.
